Best Marketing Book List
Looking for the best marketing book to take your business to the next level? Start with these.
Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind by Al Ries and Jack Trout
A classic marketing book. The authors explain the importance of appealing to the buyer, not to the seller. Products should be positioned relative to the consumer’s viewpoint of value and needs. You will not find specific details on building a marketing plan – but a very good general examination of marketing concepts and great real-world examples – good and bad. It’s a quick good read with short chapters.
Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies by Jim Collins and Jerry I. Porras
The authors study some of the most successful businesses. Their research produces some surprising results as they refute at least twelve commonly held businesses beliefs as myths. Some examples: a great idea is required to start a company, a charismatic leader is required, successful companies must maximize profits first and foremost, and brilliant complex strategic planning leads to success – all are myths, plus a few more. One of the best marketing book’s I’ve read.
The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing by Al Ries and Jack Trout
Not only have these laws come in useful as I market my own home based business, but I can see how other companies have applied (or ignored) them – and what the outcome has been. Rather than reading like a textbook, it is more like a small handbook of essential marketing ideas. With only 132 pages and 4-5 page chapters, it is a very easy read. Also scattered throughout are excellent and inspiring examples of companies that have used the 22 Laws to their advantage.
Raving Fans: A Revolutionary Approach To Customer Service by Ken Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles
This book takes a lighthearted look at the serious subject of customer service. It falls in the “best marketing book” category because it's easy to follow and contains valuable advice. Since repeat business is the key to long-term business success, this is a must-read for establishing a solid customer service strategy within your marketing plan.
The Brand Gap : Revised Edition by Marty Neumeier
Another quick and easy best marketing book. It’s imperative when marketing your business that you brand yourself to differentiate from the competition in your customer’s eyes. The presentation of the information is brilliant and gives insightful advice on developing an effective marketing campaign.
