Fear is the biggest cause for business failure. Many people are absolutely paralyzed by the fear of making a mistake or the fear of criticism.

Most people play it too safe. They are so afraid of losing - that they end up losing.

And, here's the greatest secret of winners:

Failure inspires winners.
Failure defeats losers.

Everyone hates to lose. Winners hate to lose but they are not afraid to lose. Most business owners do not play to win. They play not to lose. That is a very different philosophy and a cause for business failure.

Here is the second cause for business failure - Cynicism - the game of finding excuses:

“What if….[Insert Problem here]” –or–
“I’m not [Insert Common Excuse here]”

Excuses become self-fulfilling prophecies. If you believe it, then it will be so. It is unchecked doubt and fear that creates a cynic.

As my old varsity soccer coach used to say:

Cynics see more of what they don’t want than what they do want. When you look hard enough - you will always find something or someone to blame.

Through constant criticism, cynics rarely get their “do wants”. Here is the simple solution to defeating the cynic inside you: Instead of “I can’t”, think “How can I?”

Most people want to be financially free. Ask them what system they are currently working on to make it happen - and then reality sets in. The road is too long for them. Laziness is the third cause for business failure.

Busy people are often the most lazy - they don’t want a business, they want a busy-nest. They are constantly “busy” - yet never accomplish anything. They stay "busy" to avoid real and productive work.

We all make choices every day – each with a consequence for good or bad. Very small things done repeatedly have an accumulating effect. Bad habits are the fourth cause for business failure.

Smoking one cigarette will not give you lung cancer and eating one apple will not bring good health. One hour of work on one day will not bring business success.

Self-discipline is doing things we “need to do” now so we can do the things we “want to do” later.

Arrogance is the belief that what you don’t know is not important. And it is the fifth and final cause for business failure. Success is not based on what you know. It's not even the things you know that you don’t know. It's the things you don’t know that you don’t know that bring success.

The first step to defeating arrogance is to admit your ignorance – that there are things you don’t know.

That is why the Oracle of Delphi declared him the wisest man in the world.

You need to consider that what you don’t know might be important. Then you can learn so many things you didn’t even know that you didn’t know. And those are the things that will secure your success.

People sit around and say, “That doesn’t work. I don’t believe that.” But they’ve never tried it - never done it. So it works if you work it.
